This subtle yet profound gesture supports in unlocking the latent powers of the mind and awakening the practitioner to higher states of consciousness. Feeling intrigued? Let’s dive in!
Sambhavi means ‘that which opens the doorway to possibilities’ and Sambhavi Mudra is a yogic gesture that involves directing the gaze (drishti) upwards, to the space between the eyebrows, known as the third eye or ajna chakra.
To practice Sambhavi Mudra, find a comfortable seated position with the spine erect and the body relaxed. Gently, close the eyes and bring your awareness to the breath, allowing it to flow naturally and effortlessly.
Then, slowly and gently, direct your gaze upward towards the point in between the eyebrows, without straining or forcing the eyes. Hold the gaze in this manner, experiencing a sense of inner calmness and centeredness.
With regular practice, Sambhavi Mudra brings clarity, focus and alertness and awakens the third eye, enhancing intuition, creativity and access to silence. It opens our perception to see beyond the senses and increases our access to transcendental wisdom.
Enhanced Concentration & Focus: By directing the gaze upwards towards the third eye, Sambhavi Mudra helps quiet the mind and enhance concentration, allowing the practitioner to deepen their meditation practice and access increased awareness and expanded states of consciousness.
Activation of Ajna Chakra: The point between the eyebrows, known as the third eye or ajna chakra, is the seat of intuitive wisdom and inner knowing. By focusing the gaze on this point, Sambhavi Mudra stimulates the ajna chakra, facilitating increased intuition and insight.
Calming the Mind: Sambhavi Mudra promotes a sense of inner peace and tranquillity by directing the attention away from external distractions and towards the internal landscape. This can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and mental agitation, fostering a state of deep relaxation and equanimity.
Alignment of Energy Channels: The practice of Sambhavi Mudra allows the prana (life force energy) to flow more freely, supporting the energetic system, pranamaya kosha.
Improved Brain Health: Regular practice of Sambhavi balances the brain, releases bliss chemicals in the body and promotes optimal brain health.
Sambhavi Mudra, reminds us of the profound potential that lies within each of us to awaken to our true nature and experience the peace and bliss that reside at the core of who we are.
Through dedicated practice and sincere intention, we can harness the power of Sambhavi Mudra to quiet the mind, awaken intuitive insight, and move in the direction of greater and greater self-realisation. Enjoy!
